MLC Goals and Objectives

  • Enrich the lives of low-income families at the Mystic Public Housing Development and the surrounding neighborhood through positive educational and recreational activities.
  • Develop the leadership potential of adults and youth at Mystic by empowering them to design, implement, and take ownership of the program that serves them.
  • Provide educational support/academic enrichment for children and youth so that they may earn their high school diploma, and assist them in setting goals for the future.
  • Involve parents as members of the Board of Directors, sub-committees, and in family events.
  • Employ teenagers as Peer Leaders in order that that they may have a safe, constructive, learning work experience that will aid in their career development.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing place for school-age children ages 5 to 13 (children with special needs up to age 16) to be when school is not is session. 
  • Provide childcare support to parents who are working and/or going to school.
  • Offer additional support for children, youth and families with special needs.
  • Address the unique developmental needs of pre-teen and teenage girls and boys through gender-specific programs.
